Using a Real Estate Agent

According to the National Association of Realtors® Profile of Home buyers and Sellers, buyers are finding agents in traditional ways:

44% were referred by a friend, neighbor or relative
13% used an agent from a previous transaction
8% saw contact information on a "for sale" sign
7% found an agent on the internet
6% met at an open house
5% each walked into a real estate office

The same study found the most important factor in choosing an agent is reputation, followed by knowledge of the neighborhood.
